Petrol Price Hike (another view)

i got this email comment on the price hike, it has similiar views on my price hike also but this is his/her version, judging from his tonation in his email, i am guessing he is also pissed ! hahah.. read and GO FIGURE

‘Understanding’ won’t put food on table ……??????
I refer to the letter by Paul Ooi of Colorado entitled Oil prices in
Malaysia still cheaper. I must say Ooi’s comparison of petrol prices in Malaysia and the US is not logical, to say the least. He implies that we Malaysians should not be so agitated over the recent hike in petrol prices because we are paying US$2 per gallon while the Americans, Japanese and Hong Kongites are paying US$2.35, US$3.50 and US$4.50 respectively.

I am totally surprised that it did not occur to a well-traveled person like Ooi that Malaysians make much less than the people in the three places he named. Malaysia has a GDP per capita of US$10,400 while the United States, Japan and Hong Kong have a GDP per capita of US$41,800, US$30,400 and US$36,800 respectively. Now, is Ooi actually saying that someone who makes US$10,000 a year and pays US$2 for each gallon of petrol is better off than a person who makes US$40,000 a year but pays US$2.35 (a mere US$0.35 more) for each gallon of petrol? Doesn’t make that much sense, does it?

I’m tired of the usual banner of ‘oil prices in Malaysia are still
cheaper when compared to others’ every time price hikes take place. The  government must think we Malaysians are a bunch of donkeys. The fact is, despite the mediocre education the government gives to most of us, we can actually do simp! le maths. If the government had really done its  job all these decades, we would not be plagued by corruption and wastage and would be doing so much better in the income and purchasing power departments. The issue of oil subsidy would not even arise as we can then afford to pay for unsubsidised fuel.
The government also launches into elaborate explanations as to why we need to reduce subsidies for fuel and inject the salvaged money into ‘much needed’ development. But since the past four or five price hikes, our development has remained at that -’ much needed’. Can anybody honestly say that the public transportation system in our country has improved ever so tremendously so as to finally allow us to depend on it to get to work, to school, to the market, the court, the hospital, for meetings, etc?

Okay! , so we understand the pressing economic need to put our money in development, money which will otherwise be wasted away in fuel subsidies. Understanding, however, does not put food on our tables. Despite our comprehension of the economics of fuel subsidies, we still cannot make ends meet. I’m not against the idea of development. It’s just that for the past 18 months or so, petrol prices have increased about 40%, diesel prices about 100% and I have not had 1% of increase in my pay. How, pray tell, am I supposed to cope with this increase in the cost of living? The saying goes that by the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends. In my case, I was not even close to making the ends meet, and they have already moved the ends.
For the benefit of Ooi, I present the typical monthly expenses of a middle-income earner in Kuala Lumpur:

Salary: RM2,600 (after EPF ! and tax deductions)
Minus:
Housing: RM300
Car loan: RM500
 Study loan: RM200
Phone and Internet: RM150
Insurance: RM180
Petrol (lives a distance away from KL to take advantage of lower house
rent) – new price: RM600
Toll: RM180
Salary left for food: RM490

No savings, no entertainment budget, no new clothing, not much to give the family. And when the time is up for car insurance and road tax, credit card debt is incurred.

Please don’t tell this person to take public transport. First of all,
public transport does not reach where he is living.
Secondly, I really would not dare to ask him to rely on the public transport to get to work and meetings on time. If he is a lawyer, then he definitely does not want to take public transport unless he doesn’t mind his cases being struck out by the court due to his late appearance.

If that is the life of a middle-income earner, my heart really goes out to the low-income earner.
I do not think Malaysians are being unreasonable about the hike in fuel prices. Trying to make ends meet and making sure the family has enough food is not unreasonable. Feeling desperate and angry wh! en price hikes takes away the ability to buy enough food for the family is not unreasonable.

Unreasonable is when one complains about having to buy less Gucci shoes.

Unreasonable is when one tells his countrymen to change their already marginalised lifestyles when he himself is driven around in luxury cars while living in mansions and having his petrol paid for by the rakyat’s taxmoney.

Unreasonable is when one tells people earning less than RM1,000 a month to tighten their already tight belts when he himself dines on the finest food in the finest ambience. (and it’s always the politicians giving out such ‘cheap’ talk-lah)
Coming back to Ooi, since he had so selflessly offered advice to spendthrift and inconsiderate petrol-gulping Malaysians to change their lifestyle, allow me to reciprocate his kindness. My advice to Ooi is to come back to Malaysia, make Malaysian ringgit and pay US$2 for a gallon of petrol. Ooi can also practise what he preaches about reviewing ‘our petrol consumption patterns’.

In saying this, Ooi joins Noor Yahaya Hamzah of New Zealand in admonishing Malaysians over their reluctance to walk or ride a bicycle instead of taking the car.

Notice how these people are always those who live outside Malaysia?

They give their patronising advice from their comfortable homes in First! World countries with First World incomes and comfortable climate. It would not be so easy to mete out such generous advice if you were living in a Third World developing nation with your Third World income and sweltering heat.

Fuel price Hike Again!!

The recent price hike of fuel by the goverment has taken a toll on all the consumer, this has affected badly by the medium wage earners. The goverment has recently increase its fuel by an additional of 30cents, to lessen the burdern of its subsidy to cover the public, thier excuse is by saying that those subsidy costing by the billions will help all Malaysian by providiing better public transport and better service, ok here is what I think

1. If the congestion of traffic in Kuala Lumpur is never going to get better, what makes you think that increasing buses and bus terminal, or even LRT will ease the congestion (go figure!!)

2. by decreasing the subsidy of fuel, will the money eventually go to the PUBLIC to help ease our problems? will there be a breakdown on the money and where has it gone to help the Malaysian. (rumors has it, its to help EON and MAS airline) but the goverment has ensure that these companies will not be given a hand.

3. By increasing the fuel price, will the goverment reduce road taxes (which is not much) as its already has highway which has ever increasing toll charges for example, FEDERAL HIGHWAY (arent goverment suppose to help maintain the highways and byways for better traffic) why are we paying extra to these highway bandits.

4. sidetracking to TOLL (why dont these toll have Electronic Road Pricing, which cars just pass by the lanes and it will reduces the money on the charge card which looks like EZ-link. so they dont have to hire extra people to work, they dont have to build extra toll booth, they dont have to pay extra electric for air conditioning (which is extra cost to us users because WE ARE PAYING FOR THEM)

5. All these protest outside KLCC would not help as we Malaysian dont have a voice to speak out. People are not going to review these price increase just because you guys petition outside a shopping mall ranting and shouting about the price hike, it will just make people aware of our stupidity by doing just.  Use your imagination and how the goverment is helping us be independent of ourself, by actually raising the price of fuel is actually helping us be a stonger nation, BUT .. BUT ..

6. YES here comes the but.. but do we get wages increase? price reduction on other comodities? everything is going up just because of a petty fuel hike, people take advantage to say that price of fuel has increase so we increase our price of our product blah blah blah! so by actually increasing wages of the middle income and lower income, it will definitly boost confidence in people, showing that the goverment demands the private sector to pay EPF and SOCSO more to the people. HELP us for once.

7. Aight !! this is the last ok .. if not i would be going on and on.. i just want to make this clear to people ok ! If the goverment says that our price of fuel is still one of the lowest in the world, would they dare say that our wages is also one of the lowest ! i am coming back to the wages topic because, i am taking Singapore for example, Roughly a Manager earns RM2000 in Malaysia, and the Manager in Singapore earns $2000 also .. assuming. . a cup of Starbucks or Coffee Bean coffee in Malaysia would cost RM10 for a ice blended .. and Singapore would be $5, would you say that living expenses is cheaper in Malaysia or Singapore?  (go figure again)

open your mind to concepts and always expect the unexpected life is never the same as 20 years anymore. its a world of dreams and possiblity! make it your own ! make it true and believe in yourself ! you would never know what is going to happen! never let anyone put you down no matter how ridiculous your dream is ! then again you will never KNOW !

ps: the fuel is taking a toll on everyone, damm .. haha .. feeling the pressure of it, but bear with it !!

My Ipoh Ride !

Will be biking down to ipoh this Saturday and Sunday ! hope to see the roads of ipoh town and hopefully i can cycle all the way to penang .. which i doubt ! Ganbatte ! i feel lazy already ! ahhaah

oh not to mention today RACHEL followed us wor, she biked thats why i was doing my run instead of bike. yup thats the reason. anyway, after a good 10k run , we went down to the lake and grab a single seater kayak, i did my usual rounds around Putrajaya and i felt like i had the world . . u dont know the feeling till you cut your kayak thru a stream of water and going at a steady speed that i was proud of.. then again the WEATHER ! S-U-P-E-R-B !!
went back home after lunch in Tmn Tun at Penang Mari and then i turnned on my pc and checked some mails. without resting to long, i took my bike out for my usual 30k ride to KESAS highway and back ! today .. it felt a bit different even it was after a long day at Putrajaya, i poped on my headphones, (teisto flight653 was playing) and it made me think i can fly, the song was great, pumping in my ears to eskew all the enviroment away ! i was doing a steady pace all the way and i did the whole ride in 32min. All i know is that i am getting faster, i hope all this would reap some rewards in the upcoming Malakoff, i am targeting top 50 place in Malakoff (hey gimme a break la beginner mah). i know my stamina is getting better.
i will try my best in all the coming events. *blast em all* -isaac- my quote when i wanna psyhe up myself ! watch this space for more upcoming events and competition !

Bankrupt and happy at 25!

Heya heya, how you all have been? great? hope you guys are ! and i know you are !

its been so long since i pegged my toughts on this space, ever since i came back from Bangkok (BKK). i had my mind on something else. The Malakof and Powerman Challenge, so thats why i was so busy doing something, well the something will lead to the title of this space right now, beh tahan man.. sheesh !

okok how are you guys out there? i know some are really busy with thier work and some with studies right?,well i wish you all good luck and smooth sailing in whatever you do ok, let me tell you my story of why i went bankrupt at 25, really beh tahan ok, wanna know why? i am seriously broke but i am happy broke. here goes the story of being broke and having to drink water and eat bread for the whole year to come.. sniff sniff

i came back from BKK, and Jason was so impressed with the Race, he himself was like "SHIT I WILL JOIN NEXT YEAR AND I AM GOING TO START TRAINING THIS WEEK ITSELF" -jason ng-  and yes he was really interested in it and was really serious, his first step was to went out and source for a bike, we went bike hunting in Bangkok but alas we came back and bought a bike in KSH in Taman Tun, really nice people. helpfull and knowledgeable would recommend anyone who wants to buy a bike or service thier bike there.

after going sourcing bikes with Jason, i saw a few of the bikes that i wanted.. so knowing that i didnt felt the challenge at North Face Race in BKK, i wanted more, and i did, i signed up for both the Malakof leg in Dataran Merdeka and Putrajaya, plus the Powerman that is upcoming in November ! its a dualthon event and its really cool, to show you how serious i went, i went out to buy my Triathlon bike yesterday 15 March 06, cost me a bomb and dont ask me how much, (just a hint, i could buy a motorbike)  thats why i am broke now. will post a picture for you guys to see, but my bike is the exact of this webpage but with even better parts.

haha .. someone said i sleep with my bikes, which i do not ! i do shower with my bikes thought ! haha its true.. but only after races la. so after going bankrupt at 25, i cant eat not lavish dinner nor go for movies, my only means of entertainment would be reading a great book at the top of the hill after i did my hill climb on my bike or looking at the sunset after my long ride to the coastal sandy beaches or going riding in the middle of the night wheezing thru the empty road and feeling the cool breeze passing thru my hair but best of all is riding with my friends to any where in the country ! be it in our town or some other state. dont expect me to be seen in club’s or party no more cause i am really broke unless you wanna treat me for drinks or dinner, i would most definitly be glad to come. oh no i am getting too long winded about this.. i hate to let you guys read long blogs i hate it as much as you do. its cause the blog dont permit to slot in pictures in between hence making this blog look all dragging and boring ! unlike Mr Funny man Kenny Sia, u have great thoughts and imagination. lespek your blogsite. i boh eng to type those things out. i want to ..hehe but it would steal the limelight from you ler ! haha .. so give you chance lor.. aha .. just kidding la.. really lespek your blog ok ! and congrats on your marathon, i never expected that.. double LESPEK !

ps: i am so broke, so i have set up a "help save isaac the adventurist" and i promise you i will put your name on my racing outfit or bike when i am doing my races even for my triathlons.  here is the price for advertising your name,

donations ranging from:
RM5 – RM10 : on my outfit
