Long Awaited Report
Yes this is the long awaited report of my 60km PCC Presidential Ride 2006, this is the most memorable event this whole year as of to date, because its just CRAZY, and GRUELLING i tell you, but i love it. I will not blabber alot on the report but only the bare essential of the details of the ride and my thoughts when i took the pictures ok, its going to be a photo blog for this report. Its not going to be much but bare with it.
Please mind the poorly taken picture as its only taken from my phone. its a lousy Mini O2, the camera is not that fantastic but the phone is superb. Do not worry phone is going to be upgraded to a better cam, something with over 3megapixels so i can report with better pictures next time (talk about that later)
As you can see its only about 7.15am and you can see the cars coming in to Kajang,Semenyih for the Presidential Ride last sunday. I even say Andrew Fang who is a Singapore bowler, i think those guys drove all the way from Sing over for this ride. Didnt say hi to him as he was with his friends.
yup, more people coming in even the start off time was 7.30am
this is not a race but a fun enjoyment ride for everyone.
Thats Valeris on the left with her BIKEPRO jersey, someone being sponsored wei, I think she is getting paid to be advertised not bad man. GO VAL, she is super hardcore anyway, so why not give her the jersey. Even i dont have one, Boon Foo would tell me go flykite. HaHA
The picture on the left is the registration point where riders have to register themself as i think the marshalls want to keep track of how many riders turned up for the event. oh those are not my bike. Wish it was.
On the Left is MAN and Mac, both having a power breakfast before the ride, Me and Jason as the powerbar was my breakfast, well no sponsors from them yet. but its ok. (hint hint) a little info on everyone, Man is from Penang and i think he is some kind of legendary MTB biker, he is old but to me he is only 25 at heart, i think he can kick ass any bikers at anytime, Mac needs no introductry as he is the Fitness hardcore, Jason the Fish as known to the fakawi tribal council as he has his kick ass bike ( a Giant Anthem, with Dangerboy lever, and great alot of other great parts )
told you my picture quality was bad, but the first on the top left is clearer, dont know why, must be Jason aka Fish posing for the cam. check out all the riders that turned up, about 500 strong, suppose to be 650 capped, but i dont think all turned up for the ride. OH did you see the hottie in whitey ? hehe
this is the start of the first stage, sorry i didnt took anypicture till the half hour cause it was a good ride into the forest, thats a picture of the hill on the most left, the middle picture is to show that we all had to come down and push the bike because of the traffic of riders, my trusty 11 year old bike. Mind you my bike has only 21 speed, a broken hub, and overused fork, has never been serviced from day one. Thats my bike and i love it,
I told myself to take all pictures of the Checkpoint to show that i went throught all 4 stages. Ain’t the scenic beautiful, on the center picture do you see the riders riding to the hut, gorgeous i tell you, the picture on the left is also one of the route. I do not know how to explain the feeling of being in a Kampung Valley as its really way beyond expression for a city slicker like me.
After crossing checkpoint two, refilling my water bottle, it was a very very scenic ride and i enjoyed it most till nearly the end of Checkpoint two, i had to cross the a little stream where it had wet my sole of my shoes, causing me to rub against my shoes ( you know what you get.. BLISTERS) and on the self portrait on the right hand side is a killer time when i thought my heart was going to busrt out, i was extremely hyper and climbing all hills without coming down from the bike as i was following some KOTRT people going up hill, till i met the hill of destruction, i call it Triple KILL, want to know why? well it was nearly the end of stage two and there was this killer climb, gung ho me went up the first thinking that its going to be over, so i went really fast and when i was reaching the so called top of the hill, it was a little right turn to a second hidden hill, My heart was pumping so fast i thought it was going to jumped out, i checked my heart rate monitor but it was only 178bpm, its just the exhaustion, so i rested on the first end of the hill, then i started to push up that hill to reveal that it has another higher and steeper hill to climb. IMAGINE going up three hills which gets steeper and steeper ! YIKES !
This was the second kill, look far enough into the picture you will see a turn up to the third hill. REALLY A KILLER ! see everyone pushing bikes ?ahah .. they all got conned on the first hill climb also just like me, but i think there are bikers that cycled up all the way. On the highest peak there was this trail which was really muddy and my bike ran into it, Guess what happened next, my V-brakes has lost its grip and its eating out of my rims, Screeching with every turn of my rims. Oh my rims turned black cause my brake pads was abraising the sidewalls. Stanley from Fakawi told me that i had to clean my rims if not my brakes are going to go soon. ( to be honest, the brakes are already worn off after the mud incident) I had no brakes from this stage onwards, i was using my feet as breaks. I had tried to clean the rims but to no anvil.
Me and Soon at a Hut in the middle of no where, well no where to me, but i think its a restaurant which serves food like tomyam, maggie mee etc..etc.. look at that BIG ENOURMOUS coconut that i am drinking, super sweet and really refreshed me. Well to the least that Checkpoint 3 still so far that i think la, better drink rather than get dehydrated! I was a one man show, but now i guess i had to cling on the Soon, Stanley, Shawn and gang. I hope they dont mind cause i have no brakes and i am slowing them down, Stanley was kind enough to ask me if i wanted to change my pads? (not the KOTEX with wings ok) but my brake pads, he took a look and said he didnt have a compatible wan. WOW ! thanks for everything man.
Thats Checkpoint three with a Watermelon Station, GREAT MAN ! i told Stanley that it was the BEST WATERMELON I EVER ATE (at that moment la) i quote Jason on what he commented on that station " No watermelon can compare with checkpoint three watermelon" Thats Stanley on the right, He is DA MAN ! i owe him man! hey Stan if you are reading this, THANK YOU ! after checkpoint Three i really wanted to quit cause i had no more brakes on my bike, i was practically doing two stages without brakes and my feet hurt cause i am using it as a brake when i go downhill. But i think it wont be far now for stage 4! what else can they throw at us in Stage 4 knowing that its already the last 3 trail was so difficult. Guess i was wrong. Stage 4 Peak was crazy after cycling like 5km of TARMAC, it was a very steep hill after 5km into the jungle DARN THESE PCC people who found this route, look at the two pictures below its actually 250meters up after Soon asked one of his friend to check the altitude on their watch, its just crazy ! can you see people sleeping ? yeah they are really sleeping, cause its the highest peak already of Stage 4.
well after a gruesome uphill climb which was impossible to cycle up, there is the dreaded downhill, where i had to use my legs as breaks later on, sigh oh well, I brought this on myself. I managed to go downhill with a bit of acrobatic skills on my bike and trusty SPD shoes of mine, i can tell you that my cleats on my left shoes are all worn out.
Thats Checkpoint 4 and its only 6km to the finish line, i was told that i was number 140 and its already 2pm, i think i am going to be late, ahah .. well what can you expect from a guy with no brakes ok. ahah .. carefull ma. I WAS HAPPY TO FINISH the whole damm thing, Those pictures of the Powerbar tent is the finishing line, i was given a small handpouch and a kiara booklet, no kiss from the girls after finishing, maybe too smelly kua. hahah, riders relaxing after the ride.
Exercise time: 7hrs 27min (the whole time i took to complete)
in Zone : 4hrs 43min (the time my heart rate was in 80% – 165bpm – 175bpm)
Limit : 154 / 124
Average Heart rate : 146 (i was surprised to see so low knowing that half of the journey my heart wanted to jump out)
Kcal/FAT: 4889 calories burned 40% of it is fats only ! ( the last Malakoff i only did 2500Calories this is CRAZY)
next time i would go faster with a better bike, I hope this event would be on again next year, as i would definitly participate it in my new BIKE ! no more Brake problems ok.
