Twitter Launches Twitter #music App and Service

Twitter’s new standalone music service finally arrives today on your desktop, but even more importantly, on your go-everywhere iPhone.

The social media company unveiled the new service on Good Morning America and in a blog post. Called “Twitter #music” — yes, the hashtag is intentional —the app “uses Twitter activity, including Tweets and engagement, to detect and surface the most popular tracks and emerging artists,” Twitter wrote in the post.

The free app and service will also be a home for music-related information, so you can find and follow musicians and learn more about which musicians they follow, which will then, of course, lead to more music discovery.

TwitterMusicNowPlaying

Twitter #music started as a rumor but then quickly became a real, albeit rarified, experience for industry stars like Ryan Seacrest who tweeted about using the service last week, but didn’t reveal any images. Now we have a number of images from Twitter that depict a checkerboard “Now Playing” interface that shows music people you follow are tweeting about as well as songs that the artists are tweeting themselves. Each little square includes an album cover image with a Twitter profile pic and Twitter name on top of it.

Twitter Music Suggested

Twitter #music also includes a suggested music screen and the ability to search for music from your favorite artist. Find something you like and you can play it right from the interface. As you would expect, Twitter #music encourages instant sharing: you can tweet what you’re listening to directly from the Player screen.

As for where the music comes from, Twitter says it’s a combination of Spotify, iTunes and Rdio. iTunes previews play automatically (pretty much as they do within iTunes), but for full songs you’ll need an Rdio or Spotify subscription. In other words, Twitter #music is a music discovery service, not a free music streaming service.

Twitter Music Player

The app is available in the App Store now — Twitter did not announce an Android version — and the Web version is expected to go live sometime later today.

It’s a bold move for Twitter which now seems to be picking up and expanding into all kinds of new services. While Twitter still works with iTunes, it’s directing listeners to streaming services and not, apparently, back to Apple’s music platform to buy songs. This could also spell trouble for streaming service Pandora, which is not on the Twitter #music partner list — yet.

We’ll have a full Twitter #music hands-on report later today and look forward to your reactions in the comments below.

Do you train with Music ?

This post came about cause I saw @runfairyrun recent blog post on her Salomon X-trail run. One of her picture shows her running with headphones on.

There is even a certain rule amongst serious runner saying that music and running doesn’t mix, it is what separates the runners and the joggers, and it’s why some Marathon races ban music devices

I would say that using music in my training helps but come race day, the headphones stays in the car cause I still need it to calm my nerves, not that I am going to be doing a 2:20 Marathon but it helps.

An athlete or exerciser whose goal during warm-up is elevating the heart rate to 120 beats per minute should select accompanying music that has a tempo in the range of 80–130 beats per minute. Successive tracks should create a gradual rise in music tempo to match the intended gradual increase in heart rate. Moreover, segments of music can be tailored to various components of training, so that, for example, work time and recovery time are punctuated by music that is alternately fast and loud or slow and soft

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. – Bob Marley

I have tracks for slow runs, speedworks, tempo runs, LSD and emotional runs (don’t ask what that means) .  I have a whole arsenal of Mp3 players but today I usually run with my Blackberry cause I have this EndoMondo app install where it tracks my position, speed and timing average. I have to say its pretty cool cause its bundle in with a player in that app. Will do another review on that software some time soon.

The Columbus Marathon site came out with this running track list which I think is pretty cool, they did a poll on Twitter and Facebook and the below music list was top favorites for most participants.

• Aerosmith – “Walk This Way”
• Bruce Springsteen – “Born To Run”
• Jay-Z – “Run This Town”
• Dixie Chicks – “Ready To Run”
• Flock of Seagulls – “I Ran”
• Katrina and the Waves – “Walking On Sunshine”
• The Proclaimers – “(I Would Walk) 500 Miles”
• Bruno Mars – “Runaway Baby”
• Van Halen – “Running With The Devil”
• Iron Maiden – “Run To The Hills”
• The Ventures – “Walk, Don’t Run”
• Martha Reeves and the Vandellas – “Nowhere to Run”
• The Bangles – “Walk Like An Egyptian”

Did you know that rocking out to music while you run/walk can increase your endurance by 15 % – Tip #9 of the Columbus Marathon

Wanna wish Good luck to all the participant of the Columbus Marathon happening this 21 October 2012

I wanna know your favourite track that you listen to before you go for your run, that is if you do your training with music.

Gorgeous song !

update : I just watched her singing in the X-factor live show, and I have to say her voice is buttery smooth, infact somewhat like Adele, voice control is beautiful.  You can watch her original MTV below and Glee’s version as well

Just watched  Glee Epi 8 “Choke” and there was this song that is so beautiful I just got to share, originally sung by Florence and the Machine. I am sharing both version here with you as well as the lyrics, I love both equally..Glee’s version is more upbeat but Florence owned it .

Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
I can see no way, I can see no way
And all of the ghouls come out to play

And every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself
I like to keep my issues strong
It’s always darkest before the dawn

And I’ve been a fool and I’ve been blind
I can never leave the past behind
I can see no way, I can see no way
I’m always dragging that horse around

And our love is pastured such a mournful sound
Tonight I’m gonna bury that horse in the ground
So I like to keep my issues strong
But it’s always darkest before the dawn

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah

And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah

I am done with my graceless heart
So tonight I’m gonna cut it out and then restart
Cause I like to keep my issues strong
It’s always darkest before the dawn
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah

And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah

And given half the chance would I take any of it back
It’s a fine romance but it’s left me so undone
It’s always darkest before the dawn

Oh woah, oh woah…

And I’m damned if I do and I’m damned if I don’t
So here’s to drinks in the dark at the end of my rope
And I’m ready to suffer and I’m ready to hope
It’s a shot in the dark and right at my throat
Cause looking for heaven, found the devil in me
Looking for heaven, found the devil in me
Well what the hell I’m gonna let it happen to me

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah

And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah

And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah
