New Balance Minimus HI-REZ
Press-Release : NEW BALANCE INTRODUCES A REVOLUTIONARY MINIMUS HI-REZ
SINGAPORE, May 2013 – This summer, Boston-based New Balance will add to its barefoot-inspired Minimus collection with the introduction of the innovative HI-REZ road shoe. This shoe is designed for the minimal runner looking for the latest cutting edge product to enhance a hyper-real sensory running experience. NB Minimus HI-REZ launches in April 2013 and will retail for $165.

The launch of Minimus HI-REZ represents a ground breaking, patent pending innovation in the minimal running market, “Our new HI-REZ construction delivers a completely different experience for the runner by allowing the foot to move as it would naturally while still offering underfoot protection,” says Katherine Petrecca Business Manager for the New Balance Innovation Studio. “Minimus HI-REZ is made for the experience minimal consumer looking for a more natural run with every step flush with sensation.”

This new addition to the Minimus collection is made with 42 independent lightweight midsole pods mechanically bonded to a durable yet flexible fabric base that allows the shoe to move and flex in closer unison with the foot. The midsole pods are a high abrasion ground contact EVA which offers a strong balance between durability and shock protection with additional outsole rubber post-applied in areas that need extra resillence and traction. Made with the NB Minimus Zero drop last that eliminates any height difference between the heel and toe, both at 8mm, the shoe encourages a midfoot strike while an enhance width allos for a natural forefoot splay and yet only weighs in at approximately 4.3 ounces for a men’s size 9.5

The upper is made of a skeletally engineered FantomFit material with a support structure in the form of a hexagonal print pattern fused to a single layer of breathable mesh, giving the foot crucial lightweight support, In keeping with all shoes in the Minimus collection, HI-REZ encourages the runner to go sockless with interiors created to fit the bare foot comfortably, The tongue connects seamlessly to the lateral side of the shoe to further encourage barefoot use and reduce potential points of irritation. The sole and upper come together thought a unique stitching process and are reinforced with a rubber that runs along the entire perimeter of the shoe.

“NB Minimus HI-REZ takes your run to a new level, giving you the sensation and freedom of barefoot running paired with incredible lightweight protection” says Petrecca. “Just imagine your run magnified and refreshed. That is your run in Minimus HI-REZ”
HI-REZ are already available at all New Balance Concept Stores and Running Specialty retailers, HI-REZ is only available in Men sizing in Singapore and ASEAN.

New Balance NYC 860v3 Review
First and foremost, Thank you to the New Balance team for loaning this awesome pair of shoe to me and in what good timing it came as well because I was totally pleased as I had my Plantar Fascistic injury recovering about 85% now. I am always used to running in the most thinnest of soles for a couple of months already, especially using the New Balance Minimus Zero Road for all my short runs.
When I received this new shiny box couriered over to me, I was in total ecstasy because it would just be the one to get me back on my feet again.
So whats in it? lets check it out…
It was the new New Balance NYC 860v3 written on the side of the box, Yes Version 3, I saw this baby when I was covering the Real Run event in 2012, It was a limited edition shoe on display at the event, I have to say this shoe was inspired by the graffiti artists of New York. The design incorporates many NYC-centric elements into the shoe, such as a shot of the skyline, name of each of the 5 boroughs and, of course, graffiti art. keep reading and I will show you more in details.
When I first open the box the shoe looks pretty ordinary to me, and then the colors strike me blind, I was like WOW.. this color is awesome when its new and I can’t say enough about the design.

If you have an eye for detail, you would understand why this shoe was limited edition for NYC. A synthetic mesh upper provides lightweight comfort, support and breathability. If you look carefully just right at the eyelet of the shoe, you would see the Grafiti of Staten Island sprayed in green.
Knowing that my plantar fascistic was feeling better, I took this baby out on a spin he first day I received it on my usual 5k route, as I usually run without socks and it was a rainy day I could feel the air flow on this 860v3, and it feels very airy, I do not have the older model to compare but I can sure tell you that this shoe don’t feel sluggish.

Built on a PL-1 last, the 860v3 updates the popular 760 and features a dual density medial post to help control mild to moderate over pronation, I have a mild over pronation but I am trying to correct that and running on mid strike (getting there) so with the help of this shoe I believe it will just help me do so.
Advanced cushioning in the rear of the shoe provides plenty of impact protection for heel strikers. if you are one, but I am sure liking the design on this, if you look at the back of the shoe, you can see all sorts of graffiti going on in the shoe.
Ths shoe is made out of highly flexible blown rubber outsole (see bottom) is lightweight and helps provide a smooth ride, looking at the sole you would see those lugs carved out in flower patterns, this to me prove very versatile when I was running in the wet ground on hard cement, I notice that it provide adequate traction without getting too grippy.

The New York City skyline was one of the design elements incorporated into the shoe, the bright hue green makes it almost fashionable to wear as well as attracting attention. No matter if you are speedy or just a casual runner, this shoe is sure to turn heads.

Small hints of graffiti were worked into the design of the shoe to pay homage to the popular street art that originated in New York City

If the Big Apple doesn’t scream, “New York,” nothing does, Can you spot the Big Apple?

After having run in the shoes for a couple of months, I have to say this was one of the most comfortable shoe I have worn, It could be because
1. I am getting used to running on shoes with less sole
2. Training for races that goes only as far as Half Marathon (only lighter weight shoes will be used, this shoe weighs 11.6oz
This is my 2 cents worth on the New Balance NYC 860v3
The Good
1. The 860v3 has a very durable design which incorporates the PL-1 and Abzorb, I am sure this shoe wont be worn out that fast even if you are a hard hitter
2. No doubt this shoe weighs close to 12oz it feels light
3. This shoe has lots of style and it represents NYC if you are someone that likes fashion, I am sure this shoe will be the one for you.
The Bad
1. As I mention that this shoe weighs 12oz, for me as a lightweight runner I would prefer something in the range of less than 9oz.
2. This shoe won’t be much of a traveling companion as for its size (but I can’t fault that) as its a stability shoe
3. I love Red, and This LTD ETD should come in NY Red.. but it only comes out in this particular colors
So to sum it up here are some technical details you boys would like to know on the Men’s Limited Edition NYC 860v3
Features
- Synthetic/mesh upper provides lightweight comfort and support
- Blown rubber outsole is extremely flexible, light, and helps provide cushioning
- Nufoam application

If you have one do let me know how you feel on yours? tune in for more reviews.
Press Release: NEW BALANCE UPDATES STABILITY OFFERINGS WITH THE 860v3

Boston-based New Balance will update the award-winning 860v2 with the New Balance 860v3with a special limited edition design for the New York Metropolitan area. The update to the 860v3 design preserve both the stability quotient and ride that runners have come to enjoy in this series, with the third generation remaining largely consistent but promises an even smoother ride due to slightly reconfigured geometries and new technologies.
The special Limited Edition NYC 860v3 shoe will also be launching November, at a time when all eyes are on Manhattan. This unique design features bright, bold colors that take inspiration from graffiti art found throughout all five boroughs on streets, bridges, buildings and even inside museums. The 860v3 pays tribute to creative graffiti art that is synonymous with New York City culture and is evident to runners no matter where they train. The Limited Edition NYC 860v3 was designed to capture the proud, diverse spirit of the City and the distinct residents and visitors that make New York City one of the world’s favorite cities. The Limited Edition NYC 860v3 will be available in both men and women version at selectedspecialty retailers and New Balance Concept Stores.
The new 860v3 debuts an exciting new upper material, the more-sustainable NuFoam, which is a thin perforated layer of EVA used in the saddle that decomposes quickly in landfills. The nature and shape of this new material allows it to contour around the foot and instep for a better, more customized mid-foot fit and snug wrap around the arch.
Also new to the shoe is TBeam, a lightweight TPU shank running through the center of the midsole. Inspired by the center stringer in a surfboard which can be engineered to give the board a desired rigidity and support, TBeam has the structure to deliver better torsional stability and arch support, guaranteeing a smooth transition and dependable support at mid stance. An entirely new foam-based heel unit enables a larger Abzorb® crash pad that can be segmented to significantly help slow down the rate of pronation
The new technologies and slightly reconfigured geometries in the 860v3 lead to an improved overall mid-foot fit without compromising the locked-in heel, forgiving forefoot area and open met head windows for toe splay. By maintaining a consistent post placement and hardness as well the same offset and midsole heights as the 860v2, the 860v3 promises similar stability and support with an even better ride
The 860v3 will be launched in all New Balance Concept Stores and also at specialty retailers with the suggested retail price of $175 in November 2012.

The New Balance EX 900 GPS watch review
A couple of weeks ago, I was given the chance to review something pretty awesome, and awesome it was… its the New Balance NB900 GPS Watch..
The New Balance EX990 GPS Cardio Trainer with Heart Rate has it all!
This watch is designed for daily training sessions for runners or health enthusiast, the EX900 GPS Cardio Trainer combines all the tools you need to help optimize your results. Track your location, distance, speed and heart rate, then upload your data to help you monitor your development and achieve your personal goals (The information provided could rival the high end HRM watches)
So what comes in the box, I did an unboxing video and I thought I sounded terrible cause was under the weather (Still am). So let me list down the items that comes in the box instead of listening to my voice croak
If you notice that the watch comes with a oddly shaped USB cable its in fact a DATA cable to my surprise, This cable not only sync your info to your laptop, desktop but it also acts as a charger for the watch.
The strap mimics the design of Polar but it is very friendly on the chest as some complains of rubbing when using straps. This strap has no problems on me. If you notice the buckle of the strap at the bottom right. Its as easy as plugging in the clasp together, yes its that easy.
New Balance GPS Trainer Features

The Design of NB900
The design is one of the highlights for me, it surely does not look like a poorly designed watch but rather something of a futuristic look, I like how it protrudes out on the centre and how fat it looks, I am a chunky kinda guy, surprisingly with the built of this watch it does not weigh you down.
If you look at the buttons of the watch it is flushed into the design of the watch which is a plus point for me, cause I love things that are sleek in design (and functional)
Since this is a GPS watch, I have to say that it relatively locks on the satellite pretty fast infact…. VERY FAST comparing to my other watches from G****** and P**** . Infact it could be the fastest and most reliable (but my EndoMondo software in my phone tops it all)
Despite the chunky design, the watch does not bounce or move around when running, its curvatures molds into my wrist perfectly.
This watch comes with a NB software to be installed on all PCs and MAC, When I first installed the software on my laptop, I thought I needed to hire a rocket scientist to help me configure but it turns out that it’s easy to understand and read my workouts with ease. if you notice the bottom right of the top pic. It shows my regular 5k route. at the bottom center it shows my speed and bottom left there is a summary page which is a clear cut on the exercise of the day that I have performed.
This is a good watch to begin with for those who would like to dwell in HRM watches with GPS, for that pricing, you can only get a HRM watch for other brands. As you can see I even brought it to the recent Home Team NS New Balance Real Run to track.
My two cents worth on NB900 GPS Watch
Highlight
- Awesome GPS response
- Waypoint tracking was good and fun to use
- Watch design was something like a highend watch despite being rubber and plastic
- Buttons are all flushed so it makes it one neat watch
- Whole bunch of tracking software to go along with the watch (like HR, Waypoint, Speed avg, distance..etc..etc..)
- Easy to configure without breaking your head
- Affordable without breaking your bank.
- The battery is rechargeable
- Syncing to the PC was a ease.
- BEST part of this is no battery is needed for the watch.
Lowlight
- Screen background should have been other color beside black as its pretty tough to see
- Buttons are flushed so pretty hard to press (you will get use to it)
- I didn’t like the font (but that’s just my preference)
H2Hub are the main distributors of this cool watch it is only going for a reasonable RRP SGD$399.
for easy reference I have found all of the H2Hub outlets for your convenience

HomeTeamNS New Balance Real Run 2012 Review
90% Mental 100% Real… oh it was REAL alright, 21st Oct marks the date for the Home Team NS RealRun.
The weather was forgiving and there was a slight drizzle and cloudy overcast for a couple of hours
The road closure starts at 6am from Changi road and if you didnt know it was a 3km walk from the nearest carpark , or from from where I have parked, even with a media vehicle pass, I was barred from going in (I didnt see a problem as I am not the masses and it was only going to be one vehicle going in and it does not disrupt the race) So walk I did.. rules are rules
The long walk in …if you notice the lamp post in the pic it was the long stretch in to the Start point.
While I was walking in , 21k top leading runner was on the run on the opposite side.
While walking in also I saw Shan running his 21k with a very good pace …
and after 20mins, I was still walking .. if you notice the amount of runners heading to the start matches the amount of runners coming out, It was due to the organisers stopped the shuttle bus service from 6.15am already.. BAD BAD BAD Organizing .. I was hoping to catch the shuttle bus while walking in but really no luck. (There is a reason why Sundown organizers moved out from this place) cause runners who come after road closure have to walked all the way in. .. and then OUT !
While walking in, I could hear all the boo-boos of the organisers this year, what is happening guys ? Last year was alright .. but you sure did SCREWD UP your system this time.
Heard something about extension of the race pack collection (people not being notified) that is why they have extension for those that have not collected their racepack. (Get your act together guys)
Let’s Make Excellent Happen (New Balance) There was a small expo going on where New Balance showcase their shoes and even have a photo competition all you have to do is go into Instagram and tag your photo #NewBalanceSG (my submission is the one below)
The Race started on time for both category (very prompt I have to say) . The mood created by the DJ and the emcee was very good as music was blasting and pumping the atmosphere this morning. Runners was all PSYched up with GANGNAM style playing as well.
Pretty much a strong crowd as always for Real Run as there are many runners that would love to transition to trail but still wondering if they should. I say DO IT !!
Anyway check out the below video if today winning runner.
Video of the Winning Runner crossing the Line
Winner of 21k
Check out the winner of the 21k for this year, He did the run in only 1hr, truly that is an insane speed.. if you notice the video below, the clocked changed to 7mins, something sure did went crazy.. I also heard many problems with the 10k timing.
The following video is the previous year winner, which won the event at a time of 1hr 08min, This new winner BLEW him by 8 mins
Saw a couple of friends along the way.
Anica and Mag (hubbie was running his first 10k)
Zu and Jun (A couple runs together stays together)
J aka GrannyFartB0X and gang
Ed and Gis (Another lovely couple team)
As for me I have me and myself to run with.. #Foreveralone
Oh not forgetting the REAL RUN MEDAL
So before I head off, here is my 2cent worth of Home TeamNS New Balance Real Run 2012
Highlights
- The water point was adequate ( Despite no cheering squad the water boys was high spirited, THANK YOU GUYS)
- The new route was great
- Medal was pretty impressive (Keep up the good work guys)
Lowlights
- Water ponding along the route (can’t be help as there was heavy rain the day before)
- Medal and finisher T collection was brought out of the hall and into open.
- Shuttle Bus system was not adequate and timing should be fix to later
- Heard from J, that there was a time keeping problem (I can’t confirm on this) but I am sure the time clock screwed up, just check my video till the end.
Till then … enjoy your races everyone. See you at the next race
As I always say “Train Hard, Race Harder”
HomeTeamNS New Balance Real Run Race Pack Review
Singapore Runners will know that this weekend on the 21st, there will be three running event held concurrently Real Run by HomeTeamNS, Nike Run and the Passion North Run.
Guess which one I will be attending… DUH !!
Last year I also have attended this run as the organisers invited me over. It was a blast and I have done Real Run for 4 years in row, for me running Real Run is like a transition from Road to Trail minus the hard core tree roots and stuff.
Real Run has gravel and sand and road all thrown into the course. So I can tell you that if you are running a 50min 10k don’t expect it to be the same.
Here is my review on the Race Pack as usual
Stuff that is (erm) Recyclable
- Soleus 15% discount voucher
- New Balance 25% voucher
- Something that looked like a CONDOM BOX (YOSH !!!!) but then looking at it carefully it was a deck of cards on being a good Dad by DADS4Life.
- Some Citibank card form
- 100plus promotion , advert .. etc..etc..
Stuff That We can Use
- Jacob Biscuit
- some Muscular Balm (really
stinksmelled strong) - Rollerball pen that has a scroll like message in the centre
- whats a Pen to write on but a NOTEPAD , so thoughtful of them.
Well there you have it whats inside my REAL RUN goodie bag. (OH WAIT)
I was given a NB Shirt which I will adorn on that day, am not showing it now cause its not the official RealRun Tshirt.
Good luck all you runners and gimme a pat when you see me.
I am only running 10k cause of my injury.
New Balance Real Run 2012
It is the New Balance Real Run 2012 and its back again. The HomeTeamNS-New Balance REAL Run 2012 will be held on 21 October 2012, at Changi Exhibition Centre, Aviation Park Road. If you have not participated in this event before, do let me explain why this event is call the REAL RUN.
This is not just a run on the road kinda event, this run has complexity and with a bit of fun, how fun is running on the road on and on for 42k ? well yeah its pretty fun but not as fun if there is a mix of trails and gravel and sand. That’s how this Real Run came about.
21km runners will be running on 2km trail + 1.5km Sand + 17.5km taxiway and road.
10km runners will be running on 2km trail + 1.5km Sand + 6.5km of taxiway and road

Last year winner came in a blazing 1hr 08min and I dont think you can even see him blaze by, check out the video and judge for yourself. “Insane Speed seriously”

Shoe Porn Monday
Recently I just got back from a Tokyo trip and I saw the most amazing shoes that I think are only available in Japan. I can tell you that in Japan, they carry the most colors available for any brand that you know, be it Nike, Adidas, New Balance or Merrel, they sure paint their shoes like they are gonna be partying in it, I manage to capture some of the pictures of the shoes as I was afraid that some wielding katana samurai will come blazing down the aisle telling me I cant take any photograph in their store, well ok I was stopped at the Nike store, but I manage to sneak a few just before he asked me to stop.
As for the shoes I have not seen any of them on the SEA market, Ok maybe one or two of them I have seen em in retail stores.. but do check out the rest.. They are totally in crazy colors, I believe Japan has always the privilege of being able to wear crazy colors and getting away with it, I was wearing em funky Pink Puma Faas when I was there and I would say I fit right in.
Do you like em Pink Shoes? well I sure do .. Enjoy the Slide show .

You say Marathon was hard ? what about Ultra Marathon? those that goes beyond 100km, Call em Crazy, but what about UltraMiler? not sure if they are the same but I guess not cause once they call it mile its not in the km anymore you gotta x 1.6 to it and so you call yourself a Ultramiler,
