Triathlon has been gaining attention over the years and with the help of the Dot M franchise it will only get bigger.
Shimano seize the chance to have a dedicated website just for Triathlon specific and I can foresee them having a dedicated shop just for triathletes. How cool will that be?
Take a look at the font of their webpage.
the website has a feature gallery where you see all the latest happenings for Shimano and you can even link with their Twitter or RSS feed for updates.
Do visit their website at TriShimano.com
I click on the page cause I saw CaitSnow.. LOL.. Have a great week ahead
A couple of weeks ago, I was given the chance to review something pretty awesome, and awesome it was… its the New Balance NB900 GPS Watch..
The New Balance EX990 GPS Cardio Trainer with Heart Rate has it all!
This watch is designed for daily training sessions for runners or health enthusiast, the EX900 GPS Cardio Trainer combines all the tools you need to help optimize your results. Track your location, distance, speed and heart rate, then upload your data to help you monitor your development and achieve your personal goals (The information provided could rival the high end HRM watches)
So what comes in the box, I did an unboxing video and I thought I sounded terrible cause was under the weather (Still am). So let me list down the items that comes in the box instead of listening to my voice croak
If you notice that the watch comes with a oddly shaped USB cable its in fact a DATA cable to my surprise, This cable not only sync your info to your laptop, desktop but it also acts as a charger for the watch.
The strap mimics the design of Polar but it is very friendly on the chest as some complains of rubbing when using straps. This strap has no problems on me. If you notice the buckle of the strap at the bottom right. Its as easy as plugging in the clasp together, yes its that easy.

The Design of NB900
The design is one of the highlights for me, it surely does not look like a poorly designed watch but rather something of a futuristic look, I like how it protrudes out on the centre and how fat it looks, I am a chunky kinda guy, surprisingly with the built of this watch it does not weigh you down.
If you look at the buttons of the watch it is flushed into the design of the watch which is a plus point for me, cause I love things that are sleek in design (and functional)
Since this is a GPS watch, I have to say that it relatively locks on the satellite pretty fast infact…. VERY FAST comparing to my other watches from G****** and P**** . Infact it could be the fastest and most reliable (but my EndoMondo software in my phone tops it all)
Despite the chunky design, the watch does not bounce or move around when running, its curvatures molds into my wrist perfectly.
This watch comes with a NB software to be installed on all PCs and MAC, When I first installed the software on my laptop, I thought I needed to hire a rocket scientist to help me configure but it turns out that it’s easy to understand and read my workouts with ease. if you notice the bottom right of the top pic. It shows my regular 5k route. at the bottom center it shows my speed and bottom left there is a summary page which is a clear cut on the exercise of the day that I have performed.
This is a good watch to begin with for those who would like to dwell in HRM watches with GPS, for that pricing, you can only get a HRM watch for other brands. As you can see I even brought it to the recent Home Team NS New Balance Real Run to track.
My two cents worth on NB900 GPS Watch
- Awesome GPS response
- Waypoint tracking was good and fun to use
- Watch design was something like a highend watch despite being rubber and plastic
- Buttons are all flushed so it makes it one neat watch
- Whole bunch of tracking software to go along with the watch (like HR, Waypoint, Speed avg, distance..etc..etc..)
- Easy to configure without breaking your head
- Affordable without breaking your bank.
- The battery is rechargeable
- Syncing to the PC was a ease.
- BEST part of this is no battery is needed for the watch.
- Screen background should have been other color beside black as its pretty tough to see
- Buttons are flushed so pretty hard to press (you will get use to it)
- I didn’t like the font (but that’s just my preference)

20,000 runners pound the streets for Nike We Run SG 2012 last Sunday. This was the Singapore series for Nike We Run 2012.
There will be a total of 32 races compromising a total of 371km for this series.
The event venue was packed when at about 6:30am, Due to the over whelming participant, the start time have been divided in to two waves which 7:15am was for the first wave & Second wave at 7:30am. That still did not help in the cramping of runners around the start pen.
There was no proper signage or rather too small for the cramped up participants to notice the baggage counter area, It was not only hard to locate but was filled with people cramping for space to deposit their bags at the counter.
Went for the second wave instead as unable to squeeze in for the first wave (too many fast runners I believe). The second wave was also packed with runners, maybe next time they should make a third wave instead.
Running route was improvised from the previous runs running through Kallang but this time we run pass Nicoll Highway and made a U-turn back to Republic avenue, F1 put and viola Marina Bay Sands.
Nike created such hype that not only the runners signed up were in the young category, but of all ages. my friends mum, auntie and uncle was running as well.
Along the running route were DJs spinning hard for the perspiring runners motivating them to keep on running, By the 4k marker, many people started to walk plus further more walking on the right side of the route. Inconsiderate.. but better than Nike Goddess where the ladies were all pushing and shoving. ( Must be something about Nike that gets people all riled up)
Anyway as I have mention the finishing point was at the field beside Marina Bay Sands with some nice view rather than the usual Padang finishing point.
So once again, it comes down to the baggage deposit for collection, it was utterly unorganized, everyone was just standing in frustration with the long queue. The hot and sweaty moment just didn’t help as well., Only after when there was volunteer ushers started to inform the participants of the queue and organizing the line to speed.
Anyway it was a Run that many enjoyed for sure
Not bad, addition finisher tee to trade off the usual medal
Overall the event was good, just need some improvements on the baggage part & inform the participants to keep left for slower runners.
- New route was fantastic
- Entertainment along the way was surely a great booster for all runners
- Giving Finisher T as replacement for a Medal was a great Idea.
- Should get some bigger area space for the baggage counter movement.
- Ushers should be around everywhere to help runners
- Luggage deposit area should have proper signage all around.
RunNus post update:
Hey Hey hey everybody, run is over and I could say it was a very hot and humid day. Saw the boys at the event and it was pretty fun with lots of people up in this early Sunday.
The organizer of RunNus made a very very big boo boo, I was at the finish line when the
(SUPPOSED WINNER) first wave 10k running came in *He was not suppose to run to the start line*
He was shouting at the poor volunteer saying WHERE is the finish line? poor girl told him that it was the other corner. He kept shouting there should be proper marker etc etc but I sure understood his feelings cause with a time of 44 or 48mins and you are not placed in the top 10? tsk tsk tsk
So what really happened?
1) If I am not wrong, he was not wearing his bib on the front, so the volunteers did not see him coming.
2) Volunteers could have been more attentive (but hey this is not a professional organization, they are just students)
3) Should have jut put up proper signage (so no need volunteers to direct)
All finishers was given a Finisher T. (First time they are doing so) check it out
Well see you guys at the next run. It was a short and enjoyable run. Have a great weekend
RunNUS is an annual running event organised by the NUS Student Sports’ Club. For the third year, all participants’ fees go to the Annual Giving bursaries to help NUS students in financial need. Last year, more than 1,800 runners participated in the Run, helping to raise more than $35,000 for students in need.
Are you one runner that look forward to collecting the race goodie bags and wondering what they would give? I believe some steep race registration goodie bags provided are not filled with very high quality items as well. Do you feel cheated ?
Lets take a look at what goodies was given for a $26 race.
Skechers sponsored the woven recycle bag carrier that was given out to all participants.. now lets see what else is inside… (more…)
Trail Gear galore, recently I went bonkers and bought 2 pairs of Trail shoes at a sale when knowing that I already have one in my collection of many shoes, lets just say the sale was too good to resist.
I started doing more trail running in preparation for my The North Face (TNF) 50km, this coming October, yeah.. to some ultra runners 50km may seem short for them, but this is the not a race for me, it is actually my training for the upcoming Hong Kong 100km in January.
Well if you are interested to run trails or go for a hike, here are some essential gears to get you started. (more…)

People are suckers when it comes to fitness, if one celebrity goes on diet and clearly shows that the weight-loss is a miracle worker, 80% of people would want to try it cause it SHOWS, that is why beauty magazine is a NO NO, it only make you depress

Don’t take your health to seriously ? well sometimes you need to because its good for you.. If you wanna lose weight, simple, just watch what you eat, if you want to look good, get fit. Fitness and watching what you eat is truly a great combination. I believe in it 100%
Think those diet pill and slimming centre is going to help you? I don’t think so, in fact it might do more harm. Yeah I know the magazine articles telling you that this and that diet product works and everything, or even maybe this and that fitness product to cut your tummy or tight is a miracle worker,
The only way I feel to lose weight and ensure it stays off is LIFESTYLE Change .. be discipline and you will be rewarded with renewed energy!
Well fitness can’t be all that boring, check this advert by Thai Health promotion, its super hilarious ! bet you gonna love it too
tell yourself this, you sure didn’t put those pound on in a week, HELL you are not going to take it off in a week also.
RW daily featured a series of motivational posters by Mark Remy back from Dec 2011, I have choose a couple that I find super hilarious and will publish them one everyday. Watch this space for the Motivational posters that
SURELY maybe Ignite the runner in you.
Ok seriously, I am for sure guilty for this one !! Can’t help it I am a tech geek. He forgotten to include the cadence pod, the heart rate monitor, the ipod, the laser distance calculator, the anti dog barking device… etc.. etc.. *I am still grinning cause of this poster* DARN IT hit me right in the nose.
I have started sourcing for my parts on my “PartsbyParts” project, this is in fact a project that was long overdue, So whats this “PartsbyParts” project I am talking about? Its for poor people who can’t afford to buy the whole bike at one go, no I am just kidding, its a project where I buy a Part a Month till I finish building the whole bike to my specification.
So to see a good clear view of the bike parts that I need to buy, this would illustrate it better for the masses
I have already sourced for the frame and it will be ordered by end of this month, don’t ask me yet what it is .. but I will show you guys the after the end when the bike is fully / finally built-up,
but as for the moment I have a big dilemma in which the wheel sets selection is killing me, I have narrowed it all down to two brands. I really need your opinion on this.
Wait I have to tell u why I have selected this two models, not just esthetic wise but also in performance wise. I need a strong rim that can go fast as well as climb hard. . . . . So what models are they ? 1st up
MAVIC KSYRIUM SLR 2012
SSC Wheel-Tyre System: the pros choice
Optimized Wheel-Tyre System: GripLink / PowerLink
Superior endurance: Exalith
Distinctive full black – SSC graphics
High energy transfer: Tracomp technology
Less inertia for the same stiffness: ISM machining
Low rolling resistance: Yksion PowerLink
The lightest Ksyrium ever: 1400g
Light and stiff rims: ISM + Exalith
Light yet resistant components: Carbon and Zicral bladed spokes, carbon front hub, Maxtal rims
Weight (pair of wheels with tyre – WTS): 1990 grams
front wheel: 635 grams
pair of wheels: 1400 grams
front wheel with tyre – WTS: 930 grams
And the 2nd model needs no introduction and I am only gonna post one picture of it, just in case you guys have not seen it which I doubt.
ZIPP 404 Clinchers
If you guys have any feedback on the wheelsets that I have mentioned above, I am glad to take it in, or even if you have known another brand that is even better task at what I am looking for, do let me know as your comments will be greatly appreciated.
I am kinda leaning towards the Ksyrium cause of the Mavic’s Exalith treatment. The bike I am building is mostly B0B which means black on black. I heard there is surface braking problems exp: NOISE.
I saw this new book that was raved by HBR a couple of minutes ago, the reviews for it was so darn good , I was so tempted to click on buy in Amazon, It was on offer anyway, $25.99 down to a cool $15.27. Then the big question here came when I wanted to choose paperback or eBook.
Some pros and cons for having
- Touch (tangible feel of holding and feeling the book)
- The smell of printed paper (not sure if this is a pro but for me it is) its like smelling new money
- Take up space
- Will have mildews after keeping for some time
- Cheaper (not sure if its cheaper)
- Easy on the weight, you can carry like 100 books in 1 device
- Might get corrupted
- Your reader might run out of juice
- You have to buy a reader before you can start reading. $$$
So What would you choose ? help me decide at the polls below

“pull buoy or leg float” - is a figure-eight shaped piece of closed-cell foam used in swim workouts. Swimmers place the buoy between the legs in the crotch area to provide support to the body without kicking the legs; this allows the swimmer to focus on training only their arms
Seriously, Swimming has not been my forte and I do suck at it, maybe cause of all the blubber that is sticking on my sides of my waist, (and people say it makes you float easy) yeah right.. those fats do weigh something and it contributes to you sinking in water.. *ok that’s not true* its simple because of our body positioning and (more…)
Not long ago I was looking for Aero helmets on the web, I was doing my research and everything on helmet, searching furiously on reviews, helmet pros and cons and what people think of aero helmets.
Hoping that it will make me go faster on the bike leg, my first choice was Giro Advantage,
And that was it, I had my mind on it and I was pretty much settled on the decision as many people had reviewed it, I told Benny (more…)
Hey you all, guess what? this the most happening client of mine and she happens to think that everyone is psycho except for her self and her name happens to be at the TITLE !! yes girl this blog post is about you and your progressm, She is totally cool and she is the most diligent and more hardworking of them all, she will try every exercise regime i throw at her.. (of course I have to ensure that I am able to handle it too)
She was once at the verge of giving up her workout regime and wanted to quit after so long and in the progress of losing weight, cause of all her busy work schedule and stuff (sigh)
Luckily, I guess she found her motivation and came back to the gym after a hiatus , and this time, BACK with a VENGENCE and even more determination. Have her going to RPM CLASSES , Body Combat and some STEP classes that I have slotted in-between her PT with me, tight workout schedule for her but she does em all.
A little preview of her achievement to you all and what she has gain or lost.
1) from 80+kg down to 70+kg in 3 months
2) for the waist .. (erm not sure) the stats in my clipboard at my workplace.. but i am thinking no less than 4 inch already
3) her thighs lost 6 inch
4) Body Fat Percentage drop by over 5%
(well i guess if Uma or anyone can do it so can you all, so don’t give up.. and try your best, every little ounce of Fat counts)
I always tell my clients that “You put on those weight not in a day but accumulated over time, You sure hell not gonna take if off in a Day” patience and perseverance will catapult your metabolism and that’s when you are going to melt those fats away!
