Can you Run the Entire Tour De France ? She Can !

Meet the woman who is running the entire Tour de France route

Campaign Story

26-year-old American Zoe Romano is undertaking a remarkable quest to run the 2,000-mile route of the Tour de France in just nine weeks in an extraordinary test of endurance.

Planning to cover around 30 miles a day, the distance is punishing enough – but the Tour’s route includes numerous brutal climbs which means Romano will tackle the equivalent of running up Mount Everest more than three times.

“It’s the Tour, known as one of the world’s toughest races, and it has so much history and pride behind it,” she told ESPNW. “To do it on my own as a runner, I figured that would really test me and what I conceived to be my physical limitations.”

Romano is running for the World Paediatric Project, and it is probably a fair indicator of the scale of her challenge that she has raised more than £80,000.

Romano is no stranger to endurance running – she has run from California on the west coast of the US to South Carolina on the east in the last couple of years.

And more than halfway through her challenge in France, all is going according to plan, despite not enjoying the creature comforts of luxury hotels that riders on this year’s Tour would benefit from.

Romano began in Nice on May 18, and plans to finish her journey in Paris on July 20 – one day before the Tour de France’s peloton arrive on the Champs Elysees at the end of the 100th edition of the race
