Sundown Ultra Marathon 2013 (Race Day)

Watch this before you go on, feel the energy, feel the vibe. This video practically captures all the runners of Sundown Ultra Marathon 2013.

Its the time of the year and time of the day when all your training come to this, this is not just any marathon, this is not just any walk in the park, this is the Sundown ULTRA marathon, there is a sense of achievement when you tell people you have done an Ultra, previously when you tell people you have done a marathon people go like … WOAH !? marathon? these days I have to admit, you tell people you run Marathon they go like, “oh which one? I have done several myself as well”.. etc… etc.. so the conversation for most people will go like that

But Total Salute to people who run ULTRA(S), the dedication, the mentality and the physical abuse of pounding your foot on the road for a very very long period of time is amazing. I know most of you guys have done a marathon yes? so think of this.. Marathon is 42km , so an Ultra you got to run another 1km more to constitute it as an ultra

“An ultramarathon (also called ultra distance) is any sporting event involving running and walking longer than the traditional marathon length of 42.195 kilometres (26.219 mi)”

Or if your doing the Sundown Ultra Marathon you will be running Marathon X 2 and put in another 16km. that’s how long you guys gotta run, when I mentally visual the distance of me running that I am already feeling tired. Covering events like this has lots of perks as you usually will bump into tons of people you run or see at the running circle. Here are a couple of friends and close buddies that I met in that half hour when I was there walking around.

Few Shout out to a couple of names, Congrats Sumiko for winning the local female category, Told ya you gonna do it again. Mr Resident Speedy Gonzales “Sky” for placing second in his mixed category despite his injured ankle. Gisete Congrats on your awesome run, Royston and Jayve for hanging tough and completing their first Ultra Marathon, not only doing for themselves but more importantly for CHARITY, Each and everyone of you deserve a great big clap and pat on your back for finishing. Now rest well for the next event.

Not forgetting the hard working CROWD Girls working their nights and day off for this event. Thank you for your dedication and passion for the sport. GO NEW BALANCE.

I have to say the runners are all well taken care of, Look at all the goodies provided by sponsors for the runners in the transition area, This place is loaded and is ready to feed all the runners,

The organizers will never forget the supporters who came to support the runners as well as members of the public who was just hanging out at the Barrage was treated to an array of entertainment at the Sundown Race village. Popular local bands, 53A and The Huckleberry Friends kept the runners and supporters entertained with their music, whilst percussionists Batucada amped up the atmosphere with their percussion beats. Participants, and their family and friends enjoyed the night breeze while watching movies screened at both Marina Barrage and the U-turn point at Changi.
