Run for Hope .. #RunWithWill
I sadly could not split myself into two, last weekend as there was the Salomon X-trail run and the Run for Hope event going on the same day. I even contemplated to do both in which I run the Salomon X-trail and quickly drive over to Run for Hope, but that is not a wise choice.
A buddy of mine Smith recently shared on his blogsite ( Smithankyou.com ) something which he seldom do which is running and caught my eye (Smith if you are reading this run more ok, run like the Kenyan’s) and me as a running advocate, I would mostly be honored to share his post on my blog in collaboration with the Run for Hope run.
You see, Smith recently lost his brother Will in the fight for cancer and for the Run for Hope event, he made a hashtag #RunWithWill and he is requesting for “donation” not in money sense but in running “Mileage” so please check out his post and donate your mileage to the #RunWithWill , you don’t need much but you can share your runs and hard work in his blog .. To Donate you Distance and Mileage check out #RunWithWill posting here on Smithankyou.com
( Will and her eldest daughter, Natacia running their 1st and only race in 2011. At that point of time, Will was celebrating his 5th year of beating Cancer until bad news strikes again in late 2011.)
Who do you run for ? I Run for those in need, those who have lost their will and determination. I run cause I can, I run cause I know god has given me another chance in life everyday when I wake up. I am blessed and so are you if you are reading this.
Run For Hope 2013: 11,000 participants raise over $465,000 through the run in support for cancer research at NCCS
Partnering National Cancer Centre Singapore since 2008, the hotel organisers Four Seasons Hotel Singapore and Regent Singapore record highest number of run participants on their 21st year of running for cancer research
20 November 2013– This year marks the 21st run that long-time supporters of cancer research, Four Seasons Hotel Singapore and Regent Singapore (A Four Seasons Hotel) have organised to show their support and dedication to finding a cancer cure. Run For Hope 2013, a non-competitive charity run, saw more than 11,000 participants take part in the 3.5km and 10km routes at The Promontory @ Marina Bay this morning, making for the largest turnout in the event’s history. All were encouraged to personalise their running bibs to share their reasons for supporting the run. Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower, Mayor, South West District and Deputy Government Whip, showed her support for Run For Hope 2013 by flagging off proceedings as the run’s Guest-Of-Honour. Dr Khor then joined the hundreds of families and supporters at the event to complete the 3.5km route.
Through the Run For Hope 2013, over $465,000 was raised in support for cancer research at the National Cancer Centre Singapore. This accounts for the largest pool of funds raised from a run event organised by the hotels. The total amount includes close to $25,000 that was raised by the two hotels, through separate fundraising activities in the lead-up to the event.
National Cancer Centre Singapore Director Professor Soo Khee Chee said, “NCCS is expanding its depth and expertise on cancer through an array of research projects. The outcomes of many of these research projects have been recognised internationally in contributing to improved diagnosis, treatment and care for our cancer patients. We are pleased to see the NCCS moving closer towards its vision to be a global leading cancer centre with the support of our community”.
On hand to present the amount to Dr Charles Toh, Chairman of NCC Research Fund, at the event was Mr Antoine Chahwan (Regional Vice President &General Manager, Four Seasons Hotel Singapore), Mr Martin Sinclair (General Manager, Regent Hotel), Mr Chris Hart, (President of Hotel Operations Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts Asia Pacific) and Mr Allen Smith (President & CEO Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts). The proceeds from the run will go toward the NCC Research Fund, which helps to finance a number of crucial research projects conducted at NCCS in the on-going quest to find a cure for cancer.
Mr John Wu, Co-Chair of Run For Hope and Regional Director of Engineering, Four Seasons Hotel, said, “Run For Hope just gets better every year and it’s fantastic to see so many people participating in this morning’s run. Four Seasons Hotel Singapore and Regent Singapore are extremely proud of our partnership with NCCS and the success of today’s Run For Hope is a true testament to that strong relationship. We look forward to further growing the event in years to come. The outstanding response we received for this year’s Run For Hope allows us to keep contributing our small part in one day finding a cure for cancer.”
Amongst the thousands of participants who enjoyed the fantastic Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay route courtesy of Official Venue Partner Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), was a group of close to 500 men and women from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) led by Commissioner Eric Yap.
Following on from the success of last year’s Executive Challenge, senior management executives were once again invited to show their support in the fight against cancer by signing up run in the corporate challenge and encourage a corporate team to join them on event day. 2013 saw 19 corporate leaders take on this challenge and the 3.5km Marina Bay circuit.
Almost 600 student volunteers from Temasek Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, University of Nevada Las Vegas Singapore, ITE College West, Anglican High School and St Margaret’s Secondary School, contributed to the success of the event, from helping out with packing and distributing run pack collections to marshalling and handing out bananas and water, all while encouraging the participants during the run.
At the close of the event, three lucky Run For Hope 2013 participants walked away with close to $6,000 worth of hotel stays, sponsored by Four Seasons Resort Maldives Kura Huraa, Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok and Four Seasons Hotel Macau.
The public are still encouraged to donate to the Run For Hope cause via www.runforhope.sg.
