Puma FAAS 300s First Impression
Few weeks back I have gotten my hands on the following performance trainer which is the PUMA Faas 300 S and I have put in a couple of milage into it and if you want to find out how it runs on Isaac’s 2 cents worth read on.
I read that the Faas 300 S is the update to the Runner’s World Best Debut Faas 350 S, and knowing Puma’s range of shoes they always ends with numbers from 100 – 1000, if you did not understand the numbers behind Puma, let me guide you in understanding the Puma numbers behind the shoe, understanding the Faas Family numbers is pretty easy as the ranges goes from 100-900, a number means higher in support and cushioning
With the big names behind Puma such as Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake what would go wrong with such a nice looking trainer
The Faas 300 s comes with a lot of the same great qualities as its 350s but without as much shoe. Weighing in at 8.0 oz or rather 220gm, running in the 300 feels fairly light with ample cushioning. The upper is made of seamless mesh and reflective accents across the top. The no-sew overlays create a comfortable, secure fit without causing any hot spots.
The 300 S has a new upper on the true and tried midsole and outsole and is ultimately a performance training shoe abrasion resistant rubber strategically placed in high wear areas for more durability, and sometimes with new upper does not means better, firstly on my first run I could feel the upper had a constrictive flex most noticeable on the fore foot toe-off
It has ample cushioning and the grip on sole is made out of the Everride system, it is a diecut blown rubber outsole which provides extra cushioning during landing , the Evertrack sole on the right side picture is made for high abrasion resistant rubber strategically placed in high wear areas for added durability
The shoe tongue has a very nice touch to it and even indicating the cushion level which seems pretty low with only 3 bar shown, don’t be deceive by the indication as it feels very well padded without being overly plush. I own two 250 and 300 for my races and run but those are the first gen FAAS which works really well for me.
The shoe incorporates a 4mm drop with the heel feeling snug, like how you stepped on a pillow while it grips on your heel but this is only felt after 5k or so, some reviewer says that there was no hot spot on the shoe but like I said the new upper had a very stiff flex and with every stride it felt like the frontal is not bending the way to a good toe off.
In summary this pair of trainer would fit well in the gym or just our for a walk without being too pricey, what I like about Puma is that they have very nice colour way which will please the masses.
Isaac’s 2 cent tip
