puma evopower vigor 1

Singapore (19 January 2017)PUMA has kicked the new year off in style by unveiling its next generation POWER boot, the evoPOWER Vigor 1. The new football boot sees PUMA’s greatest design overhaul yet in the POWER franchise, boasting an upgraded silhouette that keeps power and accuracy at the heart of the design. The revolutionary boot will be worn on-pitch by PUMA POWER stars including the likes of Olivier Giroud and Mario Balotelli, and new PUMA ambassadors, Petr Čech and Marc Bartra.

Engineered with numerous upgrades to the previous edition, the evoPOWER Vigor 1 is more technical than ever, marking a new era for the silo. The Vigor 1 is the first in the POWER family to feature a stretchable Spandex sock construction, creating an ultra-comfortable slip on boot with a barefoot feeling. The Spandex sock lining works in harmony with PUMA’s next generation AccuFoam upper technology which features a new engineered 3D format. The PU foam dots regulate the uneven surface when the foot comes into contact with the ball, which maximises precision when striking the ball powerfully. The upper is completed with PUMA’s Adap-Lite material further enhanced with a new support cage that allows the foot to bend. The one-way stretchable microfibre upper material supports the biomechanics of the foot while striking the ball barefoot, maximizing both power and precision. This combined with GripTex, a PUMA technology applied to the upper of the boot, helps create enhanced grip and ball control.

The evoPOWER Vigor 1 outsole remains the same as its predecessors as a result of popular demand, featuring a mix of bladed and conical studs. Based on PUMA’s research into how force travels on the stance and kicking legs, the boot features bladed studs that ensure perfect ground penetration and stability, especially on stance leg, and conical studs for optimal agility.

The evoPOWER Vigor 1 emanates POWER with its bold styling and colour, featuring a sleek new look in allover Gecko Green finished off with Safety Yellow and PUMA Black detailing. The diamond shaped PU dots in Safety Yellow on the sock liner not only advance the performance of the boot, but also fashion a subtle graphic pattern across the upper, which has been replicated in the outsole. The overall look is rounded off with finishing touches in PUMA Black, from the iconic PUMA Formstripe and evoPOWER branding on the tongue to decorative details on the outsole.

PUMA star striker and POWER player, Olivier Giroud added; “I’ve been wearing evoPOWER for some time now and while PUMA always makes great developments to the boot, the new evoPOWER Vigor 1 is next level. I’m enjoying playing in a boot with a slip-on sock construction – it is ridiculously comfortable plus the foam dots are a total game changer for me. I enjoy making an impact on the pitch and in these bold Green boots I definitely will. Let’s just say the bar has been officially raised.”

PUMA introduces all-new IGNITE Dual

Puma Ignite Dual

Singapore – 6 July 2016, Global Sports Brand PUMA continues to expand its successful
IGNITE running franchise with the all-new IGNITE Dual for Autumn-Winter ’16 that offers
duality in both function and style.

Engineered to provide ultimate flexibility and cushioning for mid and long distance runners, the IGNITE Dual features the proprietary IGNITE FOAM midsole that’s visible on the heel and hidden in the forefoot to offer full length energy return. Articulated chevron grooves are designed to compress during landing and rebound. The molded EVA sockliner cradles the foot comfortably for an easy run. The outsole has been technically enhanced by PUMA to mimic the natural gait of the runner. A guidance groove that runs from the heel allows a smoother transfer of the runner’s weight from heel-strike to toe-off. Deep forefoot flex grooves add to the freedom of movement while carbon rubber is introduced on the heel for extra durability.

The duality story extends to the upper with a two-tone premium flexible mesh that delivers a comfortable fit, breathability and flexibity. Adding depth and dimension to the silhouette is the color shifting mesh and reflective panels for extra visibility in low light conditions. The look is finished with an exciting contemporary graphic that gives the IGNITE Dual a youthful appeal and hook back to the upcoming Olympics Games where the design DNA continues on the training and podium wear of PUMA-sponsored Federations and athletes.

The IGNITE Dual is available in IGNITE Dual Disc (pic below) and IGNITE Dual evoKnit iterations – variations of the upper design with the same tooling. The IGNITE Dual Disc features PUMA’s innovative laceless Disc Closure System that allows a quick, easy and custom fit with a turn of the Disc dial. Its upper is constructed with a combination of comfort foam that stretches to conform to the foot and net mesh for breathability and depth. The evoKnit Dual is created with a knitted upper for a soft comfortable fit, breathability, and flexibility.

The new IGNITE Dual (SGD 159) and running apparel range will be available at PUMA stores
and authorized retailers from 15 July 2016.

Last weekend was pretty fun and of course humid here in this part of the world, pretty fun because I get to take out the PUMA IGNITE Ultimate on a test run and having a go at their PWRCOOL technology. If this shoes interest you in anyway, do read on my first impression and my 2cents worth

As you know Singapore or rather this part of Asia is facing terrific heat wave from 31degrees onward and that is the norm throughout which translate to about 88F and I am talking about the night, and it gets worst in the afternoon, and what better to do to beat the heat than go out for a run.

Heading out the door with this flashy shoe sure got me some attention, I got the Green Gecko with Black  and you can check out the unboxing video.

Overall Shoe Construction

This neutral runner has a raised midsole height and a drop of about 12mm heel to toe, As claimed by PUMA this shoe offers ultimate cushioning and responsiveness. Adding more of their unique PU foam formula underneath the foot will provide ultimate rebound and maximum comfort.

Once I have this baby on my feet you can definitely feel the plushness from the heel cup to your arch and they kid you not about the ultimate cushioning, in fact this shoe will be a hit with people who are heel striker.

Check out the large amount of PU foam surrounding the heel area, this basically helps minimize the impact no matter where you land.

PUMA Soles.jpg

I have to warn you guys that this shoe does not fit to size so before purchasing size down by a half size if your buying it online, but you can always test it out at the store for a better feel.

PUMA breathable mesh upper and thermo-regulation technology in the tongue didn’t really hit it off with me or maybe Singapore weather was just too warm. If you see the picture below on the side of the shoe, that was the amount of air ventilation that I am getting.

As  you can see even the sockliner had plenty of holes to keep the body at optimal temperatures in warm conditions but like I said PWRCool wasn’t really working here or maybe was there a switch to turn it on?

Running in this shoe didn’t feel if I was constricted around the arch area or anywhere even, maybe cause of the size issue and the arch of my feet felt like it had all the room in the world while running, one thing for sure that got me excited was the Chevron flex groove that really gave me the energy rebound when I ran in heel strike mode.

I like how they still maintain the EverTrack rubber for durability in high-wear areas of outsole and my 1st edition IGNITE still holding strong, EverTrack outsole can take on the roughest of surfaces along with Forefoot flex grooves that ensures maximum flexibility. So in short I do hope PUMA puts this system in all their shoes.

Isaac’s 2cents Worth

So is this shoe for me? well It is not cause my sweet spot for running shoe is always been 4mm to 0mm, this shoe has a 12mm heel to toe drop, and I find that the PWRCool tech simply isn’t cutting it for me as well.

So who is this shoe made for then? This shoe will go well with people of heftier weight as it will cushion, minimize and save their knees from impact pain. Ultimate IGNITE will be loved by those who desire for maximum cushioning or simply like their shoes comfy and with lots or rebound.

As I have mentioned in my Youtube unboxing, I do want to compare this with the Ultraboost to see who has better comfort, at the moment cause I have only worn the Ignite, my vote goes to PUMA.

I understand IGNITE Ultimate PWRCool is costlier than the previous version, but if you have the cash to splash, then get this for its maximum plushness otherwise the older edition of IGNITE will appeal to the masses.

Also to give a shout-out to all those PUMA Night run participants, I can’t wait to be running in the new route that PUMA have planned for us. See you guys there and if you have not signed up for the run. You can do so by clicking here.

PUMA Night Run Singapore Post Race Review

PUMA Night Run Singapore 2015 have concluded and what night it was, the haze stayed for the night and everything was just beautiful, the sky was clear and a crisp of clear breeze just keeps blowing gently on the runners at the Marina Barrage venue, not here to talk about the weather but that’s about it anyway

Most of you want to know how did PUMA did for the 2nd year running the event in Singapore as PUMA Night run events are BIG in TAIWAN and KOREA, especially Taiwan (think loads of … wait .. sea of people. Pic below was from PUMA Taiwan 2014)

PUMA Night Run Taipei 2014: Celebrating Taiwan's Modern Night Cats

The Course

The interesting course brought us around the scenic view of Marina Bay which highlights beautiful CBD skyline along the course, the course pic below was pretty good with little or no bottleneck except for the one after 6km but that is to be expected because of construction works as well as its a Park Connector. Other than that you can literally blast your way through the course.

PUMA Night Run Singapore 2015Just so you know I had to run a steady pace and not blow my main even which is happening next week in Osaka, so all I could do is just hold my pace at 6min through out and be discipline about it. My polar timing came in at 1hour exactly and it recorded an average pace of 6min/km (how’s that for discipline) it’s a training just when I needed it, my only concern is how my average HR stayed at 171 which is not my usual of 160bpm through out 20km courses (Blame it on the haze)

There was three water point serving out just water and not energy drink, which is sufficient for a 10k event. The volunteers at all the water point must have been trained at Ironman event because they were passing the drinks while running with the runners.

I have to say this is the first time I ever seen a Pin for Medal, Think “Medal Of Honor” really cute and innovative guys.

The Atmosphere

Once runners arrive on the start point, you will be greeted with all the booth lighted up just like would at some out door concert event, maybe even better cause of the purple and green laser light dancing all around,

the atmosphere was electric and you can bet people are queuing up at photobooth, HIC drink booth and even the delicious DoSiRak. There was DJ and celebrity all around the PUMA event for your to gawk, as in Taiwan there are many pretty girls and hot hunks to eye candy similiar to Korea (let me cover it live next year for both city and I will let you know)

The Winners

Defending his title, Thomas Kiprotich topped the Men’s Open category with an impressive time of 33 minutes 57 seconds. Kennedy Kyule Matolo came in just seconds behind with a respectable 34 minutes and 12 seconds followed by Suresh Tilija in third place, with a time of 36 minutes 30 seconds). Finishing above the rest in the Women’s Open Catergory was Cheryl Chan, who crossed the finishing line with a time of 44 minutes, with Anna Helowicz Hebrich coming in second at 44 minutes and 49 seconds and Marsh Rebek Ah Karen Patrica in third position with a time of 46 minutes 16 seconds.

Overall Experience

Totally loving it, would not miss events like this because it’s one of those events where you don’t need to wake up early in the AM, the place was electrifying filled with runners pumped up for the event, Imagine the runners even did a pre-warm up sponsored by True Fitness. Baggage handling had no problems and you could just drop and pick it up without a hitch. Bet my last dollar you will see me running for 2016. In the meanwhile train smart and run hard.
